Matthew has an MPhil in Public Health from the University of Cambridge School of Clinical Medicine, Department of Public Health, and is trained in a variety of qualitative and quantitative research techniques. At the dEBM since January 2017, he has focused primarily on designing and conducting health services research, systematic reviews and meta-analyses in the areas of sexually transmitted infections and STI epidemiology, HIV prevention and general dermatology, as well as on developing and evaluating clinical practice guidelines. Prior to joining the dEBM, Matthew worked as a Researcher in Health Policy and Project Manager at the Nuffield Trust in London, where he focused on evaluating the development and implementation of complex health service interventions in the English NHS, including initiatives to improve the integration of care for older patients with multiple long-term conditions and in palliative care. Before that he worked as a Research Fellow at the Berlin hub of the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies, co-authoring two volumes of the Health Systems in Transition Series, on Hungary and the Czech Republic, in addition to peer-reviewed publications on subjects such as the spatial distribution of avoidable cancer deaths and the financing of medical devices in Germany.
